The team from the University of Alicante, led by prof. L. V. Lopez Llorca and prof. F. Lopez Moya, generated the following patents:
- Patent number: P202131206. Title: “Use of chitosan to increase the production of volatile organic compounds of the banana plant of the genus Musa (Uso del quitosano para incrementar la produccion de compuestos orgánicos volátiles de la planta platanera del género Musa)”.
Description: methodology to modify through the application of chitosan, a natural biopolymer, the production of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from banana plants. This method activates the metabolism of VOCs that defend plants against various stresses, and promote growth, which is why it is potentially useful in agriculture, replacing chemical fertilizers and toxic phytosanitary products. This methodology is, therefore, capable of being exploited industrially and commercially.
- Patent number: P201930831. Title: “Use of volatile organic compounds from parasitic fungi of invertebrates as repellents of the black banana weevil (Cosmopolites sordidus) [Uso de compuestos orgánicos volátiles de hongos parásitos de invertebrados como repelentes del picudo negro de la platanera (Cosmopolites sordidus)]”.
Description: the invention relates to the use of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from B. bassiana, M. anisopliaeand P. chlamydosporia, as C. sordidus repellents.
